Top 5 places to get your work done if you are self-employed

One of the benefits of working for yourself at home and making money online is that you can work from almost anywhere. Since the work entails brainstorming, reading books and research you don’t necessarily have to be in front of a computer. But even if you needed to most places have an internet connection.

Here are the top 5  places that I enjoy working:

  1. The beach. Living 10 minutes from the nearest Florida Gulf Coast beach makes the sun and water my favorite place to “work.” There’s nothing like being surrounded by nature and beauty to put you in a creative mood. Here is where I can read books, jot down thoughts and let my brain relax. That’s how I get my best ideas.
  2. Coffee shop/cafe. I also get inspired while sitting with a cup of coffee in a shop or cafe. I seem to be able to tune out other things in my life so that I can concentrate, even with other people around me. I can sit with pen and paper, read books and even get a bite to eat. Starbucks and Panera Bread are popular hangouts for the self-employed.
  3. Bookstores. Bookstores such as Borders and Barnes & Noble provide a great place to not only sit with a cup of coffee and brainstorm but to browse through your choice of reference books and magazines.
  4. Outdoor patio or backyard. Working just outside your own home has benefits. You get to enjoy the outdoors and fresh air but if you get hungry or just want to take a nap your front door is not far away.
  5. In bed. My bed is so comfortable. I can prop up the pillows and read my books in bed. The serenity of the bedroom seems to be a great environment for generating ideas….and taking a nap just because you feel like it.
